The summer heat is a double edge sword. Sure you have beautiful days to enjoy the beach or other outdoor activities but you also have to take extra care of your skin. The summer months can be particularly draining on your beautiful skin if certain percautions aren’t taken. Implementing a skin care routine just for the summer is important. Staying moisturized and applying the right sunscreen or tanning lotion are key to a happy and healthy summer you. Here are just a few simple tips to keep your skin healthy in the summer rays.

1) Exfoliate

Exfoliating removes irritants from your skin such as dead cells and will help your skin battle the sun. Keeping your skin clear and feeling smooth in the summer can be particularly difficult especially if you’re spending your days and nights on the beach. Exfoliating offers a deep clean and will keep your pores healthy. Exfoliating will also help you keep your beach look going longer by giving your makeup a fresh new canvas every morning.

2) Lip Balm

Your skin isn’t the only thing the sun can dry out. Your lips are just as susceptible to the sun’s rays and heat. It is smart to invest in lip balm that has SPF15 or higher to keep your lips looking healthy. This will prevent against cracked and dry lips from harsh sun exposure. Your lips will be hydrated, healthy and, best of all, kissable. What more could you ask for?

3) Care for sunburns

Inflammation from sunburns, if left untreated can severely damage your skin. Sunburns must be treated as soon as possible with Ibuprofen and hydrocortisone cream. As an alternative, you can soak a wash cloth in skim milk and ice then apply it to your sunburn for at least five minutes. Both of these methods together make a great treatment for sunburns. And there is always the cooling relief of aloe to take the edge off.

4) Dull skin

Summer is a time for you and your skin to shine. Sometimes self-tanner can be a disappointment and laying in the sun too long can damage your skin. A great way to get the color you want without damaging your skin is with green vegetables or potatoes. Green vegetables like Broccoli can make your skin more beautiful and stand out. Both broccoli and potatoes have a high content of estrogen which will soften your skin and add touchable appeal.

5) Drink plenty of water

Water helps your skin stay hydrated and glow while keeping your body healthy by releasing toxins. The summer heat means you’ll need to increase your water intake to keep your day going into the night.
