On The Scene

Front-row at the runway shows. Making strides against breast cancer. At the finish line of the Iceland Marathon. Skyn ICELAND was there!

Backstage Beauty at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010

Late nights and early calls...running from show to show...no time to eat...nothing's more stressful than backstage at New York Fashion Week. This year, skyn ICELAND came to the rescue at Elise Overland's Fall 2010 show with stress-relieving facials!

With these four steps, our team helped the models de-stress during the pre-show craziness, and prepped skin for the makeup artists from Napoleon Perdis to create the final runway look:

  1. CLEANSE: Glacial Cleansing Cloths
  2. PREP EYES: Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
  3. MOISTURIZE: Pure Cloud Cream
  4. TREAT EYES: Icelandic Relief Eye Cream

Check out our Facebook page for an exclusive gallery of photos and video from behind-the-scenes.

Elise's collection was stunning and the audience was star-studded, but we think the real stars of the night were the models, who all looked stress-free and flawless.

skyn ICELAND Goes to Sundance 2010

In January, skyn ICELAND teamed up with celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose to pamper the leading ladies of the Sundance Film Festival. Nick worked with Julianne Moore, Kerri Washington and Catherine Keener, and used skyn ICELAND products to help prep their skin for makeup!

Nick gave us his tips and tricks for getting the girls glowing. His top two skyn ICELAND picks were our Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels to help prep and de-puff under-eyes, and our Pure Cloud Cream, which he mixed with foundation to replenish winter skin on Julianne, Catherine and Kerri and give them their flawless looks.

BeautyBlitz has some amazing coverage of Nick's full celebrity skincare and makeup looks for Julianne and Kerri.

We want to congratulate all of the stars of Sundance for an amazing festival - and Nick for creating star-worthy looks!

at the Charlotte Ronson Fall show

Charlotte Ronson Polaroids The Charlotte Ronson show was the place to 'see and be seen' this season with young Hollywood out in full force and a paparazzi-packed presentation at the Bryant Park tents. Backstage models were treated to a 7-step, stress-relieving regimen: Nordic Skin Peel, Arctic Face Mist, Antioxidant Calming Serum, Pure Cloud Cream, the Antidote Quenching Daily Lotion, Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels (shown on models on right) and Icelandic Relief Eye Cream. These products were the perfect pre-show regimen as they worked quickly and effectively to reduce redness and irritation as well as hydrate and even skin tone. When the models emerged in Charlotte's cutting edge designs to celebrities and fashion insiders like Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Peaches Geldof and Sean Lennon, their skin was glowing and stress-free!

Take the Polar Challenge

I first heard of the Polar Challenge whilst attending an exhibition in London called One Life. I had just reached the mid-life crossroads of 40 and I figured it was time to achieve something extraordinary, and One Life promoted life-changing experiences. The Polar Challenge, I found out, was a 350-mile race to the magnetic North Pole... Now, I was no stranger to adventure, having climbed Kilimanjaro, trekked to Everest Base Camp and cycled from London to Paris. But I knew this challenge was in a different league altogether.

It was important to me that my life-changing experience likewise promote life changes for people who couldn't be there in the arctic. My cousin's little boy has a severe case of Muscular Dystrophy, and my special uncle bravely lost the battle against prostate cancer. I decided to use the Polar Challenge to raise both money and awareness to support the fight against these horrible diseases. So far, I've raised on the order of $14,000 for MD and cancer charities, combined. Full article »

E.R. nurse Janet Funk shares her experience raising $6,000 for diabetes research by running the Iceland marathon.

Thanks so much Sarah and skyn ICELAND for helping me reach my goal of running a marathon in Reykjavik, Iceland for Team Diabetes.

I am an E.R. Nurse in Vancouver, Canada, and I deal with the devastating effects of diabetes everyday. I wanted to raise money for research and awareness.

My grandparents were born in Iceland many years ago. My grandfather was born in 1871 and immigrated on the second boat out to Canada. My grandmother was also born in Iceland and was 30 years younger than my grandfather. My grandparents passed away long ago, but my mother is very proud of her Icelandic heritage. Last December we found out she had breast cancer. She was going to go through surgery and radiation therapy. Since I was going to be with her during her treatment, I wanted something that we could focus on that was fun. My mother and my grandmother are amazing, wonderful people and I wanted to celebrate them. I am so grateful for the mother Iceland gave me.

The next week at my running group a poster went up to run a marathon in Iceland for Team Diabetes. I had only done 10k running and never even dreamed about doing a marathon but it was the perfect thing to do. So that is how I got involved in Team Diabetes. I raised $6,000 for diabetes, and committed to do a marathon. Full article »
